DollarHelp was founded in 1982 as a way to help Missourians stay warm. Since then, more than $20 million has been raised by donations from people like you. This year alone, more than $1 million has been contributed by generous donors in the Laclede Gas and Missouri Gas Energy service area.
This year, as of August 2016, we are pleased to extend the program to residents in the communities Alagasco serves. When you choose to contribute to DollarHelp, your donation stays local and 100 percent of your donation goes to help those who need it most. That's because Alagasco, Laclede Gas, MGE and United Way of Greater St. Louis cover all administration costs. Most customers in Missouri "Check the Red Box" on their bill or sign up online to add a recurring $1 monthly gift to help their neighbors in need. In Alabama, you can sign up through My Account at Alagasco.com. Laclede Gas and Missouri Gas Energy also donate more than $110,000 each year in matching donations.

DollarHelp is more than just making a donation. It’s about people helping people. Through relationships with local social service agencies, DollarHelp grants pay the heating bills for those who have exhausted all forms of public assistance.

The majority of DollarHelp recipients are elderly, disabled or single parents with small children. While DollarHelp is generously supported by customers and employees of Alagasco, Laclede Gas and Missouri Gas Energy, the charity makes no distinction with regard to fuel type. Independent social service agencies allocate the grants, which can be applied to a household’s primary heating source—natural gas, electric, propane or fuel oil. A recipient does not have to be our customer to get help. Your DollarHelp contributions are listed each month on your gas bill. You can also view your enrollment status through Customer Connection or My Account, depending on where you live.
The total amount of your contribution to DollarHelp made through your gas bill is available online through Customer Connection and will also be noted on your last bill of the calendar year.
100 percent of your donations can provide assistance to those in need. The United Way applies payments directly to custom accounts at utilities including Laclede Gas, MGE, KCP&L, Ameren Missouri, Alabama Power and others.
Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, with Alagasco, Laclede Gas and MGE acting as agents for United Way in assisting individuals with emergency energy needs.
