Cardinals Fans Can Warm The Needy At The Winter Warm Up

St. Louis (January 15, 2010) – Baseball fans attending the Cardinals Winter Warm Up this weekend at the Hyatt St. Louis at The Arch can help heat the homes of the needy by registering to donate to Dollar-Help, the charitable program that provides crisis assistance for those who struggle to pay their heating bills.  The team is encouraging fans in attendance to visit the Dollar-Help booth for a chance to win prizes including the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at an upcoming game, tickets to a party suite at Busch Stadium and much more.

"The Cardinals are proud to welcome Dollar-Help to the Winter Warm Up and hope all fans visit the Dollar-Help booth to show their support", said Michael Hall, Cardinals Vice President of Community Relations. "Cardinals Care and Dollar-Help share the same commitment and community spirit."

The majority of Dollar-Help grant recipients are elderly, disabled or single parents with young children.  The charity is Missouri’s oldest heating assistance fund, supporting the needy in nine Eastern Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis.  Residents can find out if they are eligible for heating assistance by contacting the social service agency that serves their area.  These agencies are listed at www.dollarhelp.org.

Approximately 90% of Dollar-Help’s total receipts are from natural gas customers who register to donate $1, $2 or $5 monthly through their Laclede Gas or Missouri Natural Gas bill.  The voluntary assistance of social service organizations and Laclede Gas’ contribution of administrative and support services, makes it possible for 100% of every dollar donated to go to qualified recipient households.  Dollar-Help grants are applied to a household’s primary heating source, regardless of type.  This includes electricity, propane, fuel oil or natural gas.
