Kelley Honored As "What's Right With The Region"
Longtime Dollar-Help president Dennis Kelley was honored by Focus-St. Louis, a local non-profit that emphasizes community leadership. Kelley, who recently reduced his role with Dollar-Help after 22 years as president, was recognized for his commitment to several energy assistance causes with a 2010 What’s Right With The Region Award. The awards honor unsung heroes and regional leaders who are working for the greater good of the bi-state region.“I recalled more than once that evening the wonderful people who comprise the organizations I have been privileged to serve”, Kelley noted when commenting on the award ceremony. “I’m very thankful to all the customers and employees of Laclede Gas Company—those who support Dollar-Help with either their monthly donations or their time and talents. You all deserve to be recognized for your continued concern and generosity.”
During Kelley’s tenure as Dollar-Help president, the program grew its donations significantly, now raising over $1 million annually for the needy. Thanks to his voluntary service and Laclede Gas’ donation of administrative and promotional support, 100% of every dollar raised is granted to those who struggle to pay their heating bills. Since its inception, Dollar-Help has distributed nearly $17 million throughout nine counties in Eastern Missouri and the city of St. Louis.
From 1987 until 2001, Kelley also served on the board of the National Fuel Funds Network (NFFN), a non-profit consortium of over 300 energy assistance organizations and utilities. He functioned as chairman of the board from 1991-94. He continues to operate Missouri EnergyCare and was also a founding member of the Committee To Keep Missourians Warm.
