Dollar-Help Soars In September

Look to the skies Saturday, September 19 and you just might catch a glimpse of the Dollar-Help entry in the Great Forest Park Balloon Race.

Laclede Gas is proud to support this free community event by sponsoring the Dollar-Help balloon, which will take to the air to encourage people to help those who struggle with home heating costs by checking a red box on their natural gas bill.

John Marlow, President of the Great Forest Park Balloon Race is happy to welcome the company. "Our entire event is community driven. Laclede’s participation, and their support of Dollar-Help, shows they share the same spirit."Since its inception, Dollar-Help has granted over $16 million to qualified recipients in ten Eastern Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis. Dollar-Help grants are applied to the cost of a household’s primary heating source, including electricity, fuel oil, propane and natural gas. The average grant amount per household is $300; for families facing extreme circumstances grants of up to $700 can be made. The majority of Dollar-Help recipients are elderly, handicapped or single parents with young children.

The administration of the donations through the voluntary assistance of social service organizations, and Laclede Gas’ contribution of administrative and support services, makes it possible for every dollar donated to go to qualified recipient households. Dollar-Help’s service area includes the Eastern Missouri counties of Butler, Crawford, Franklin, Iron, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Francois, St. Louis and Ste. Genevieve, in addition to the City of St. Louis. For more information, visit dollarhelp.org.
